Big Brothers Big Sisters is holding their second annual Bowl For Kids fundraiser on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th.
"Bowl for Kids Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County's biggest fundraiser. We hope to raise a third to half of our annual budget for the year. Folks get to bowl a game, they get pledges to support, that come directly to our agency, and help us raise money while they get to have a great time," Barbara Reed Martin, executive director said.
You can start a team by getting together four other additional bowlers. Each bowler on the team is asked to raise a minimum of $50 in donations. Bowling locations include Frederick, Mt. Airy and Walkersville.
"Big Brothers Big Sisters is really the premier one to one mentoring organization for kids. We know that when an adult, another adult, cares about what happens with a kid, spends time with them, we see permanent life changes. They do better in school, they're less likely to use drugs and alcohol and they have better relationships with kids," Martin said.
Annually, Big Brothers Big Sister serves more than 100 local kids and helps out more than 200 in the community and through schools. They are looking for more volunteers because there are currently 35 kids on the waiting list.
