Frederick Community College and the George L. Shields
Foundation are pleased to open applications for Shields Music
Scholarship Awards for the 2011-2012 academic year. The application
deadline is Thursday, June 28, 2012.
Scholarships will be awarded to exceptional students between the ages
of six and 18 for half-hour courses of study during the Fall 2012
semester in FCC’s noncredit Music for Enrichment Program. Scholarships
will also be awarded to qualified entering college freshmen majoring in
music at FCC. Judges reserve the right to withhold scholarship awards if
candidates are not deemed qualified.
One or more of the Music for Enrichment scholarships will be given to a
child who has never had private music lessons. Students who wish to be
considered for the new student award are asked to submit, in lieu of an
audition, a teacher evaluation and short statement explaining why he or
she would like to study music.
Scholarship auditions for finalists will take place on Saturday, August
4, 2012, in the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater on the Frederick Community
College campus. Students who wish to audition are asked to complete and
submit an application and teacher evaluation to the FCC Music Program by
Thursday, June 28, 2012.
Applications are available online at http://www.frederick.edu under the "Shields Scholarship Information" tab.
