It was part of a nationwide effort.
1470 pounds of prescription and non-prescription drugs were collected on Saturday, April 28th during the Medication Turn-In in Frederick.
Police says the drugs will be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner which will keep the air, water and landfills free of contamination.
Participating in the turn-in were the Frederick Police Department, the agency's Auxiliary, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, the Maryland Nurses Association District 8, and Whitesell's Pharmacy.
Police ask citizens to watch for announcements for a similar event in the fall.
