But Sheirff Jenkins says he's not giving up on that possibility.
The federal government may not repay Frederick County law enforcement agencies for their costs connected with the G8 Summit. "I've been told up front that there's no reimbursement," says Sheriff Chuck Jenkins. "This was not declared a National Security Special Event which is what triggers federal reimbursement.
But Jenkins says he's not giving up hope that reimbursement could happen. "I do think that that conversation will be undertaken here following the event," he says. "I've already be in touch with Congressman {Roscoe} Bartlett's office. I have received an e-mail for Senator {Ben} Cardin's office. So I think the conservations are being held."
In the meantime, Sheriff Jenkins says he's doing his best to minimize the cost connected with the high level talks. "We have had to make some equipment purchases. In terms of overtime, we are rescheduling shifts. We're basically going to comp some of our hours out. We've tried to do this as efficiently as possible in the event that there is no money."
The G8 Summit is scheduled for May 18th and 19th at Camp David near Thurmont.
There will be people coming to the county to protest the talks. But Sheriff Jenkins says he has not seen any information that individuals are coming in to cause trouble.
