A Frederick man is facing assault and gun charges after police said he threatened a woman with a handgun at an area motel.

It happened at the Motel 6 on West Patrick Street Wednesday when the woman dropped a friend off to see someone in one of the rooms. When the friend didn't return, she went looking for him and that's when she said she was confronted outside the room by 22 year old Anthony Jones, of Orchard Terrace, with a gun. Authorities said she went to the front desk to call police and later across the street to a gas station to wait for officers to arrive. Police arrested Jones.

Investigators believe the handgun that they found hidden inside of a backpack belonging to Jones is stolen because the serial number had been obliterated.
