Frederick County School teachers may be getting raises next school year.

"Well yesterday the Board voted to put additional funds into what is called the salary resource pool. That salary resource pool is what will be used to fund any negotiated contract or settlement that we have with our unions," Board of Education member Brad Young said.

Young said once the contracts with the school systems' three unions are ratified then pay raises could be made from the salary resource pool but next year the school system could be hit hard financially.

"A kind of worst case scenario would be if the state cuts back funds and we have to raise funds. The primary way we would have to do it is doing things like increasing class size which would mean laying off teacher positions for every one class size increase that you go, it would have a huge impact on the school system but that would be the only way we could make up any large deficit," Young said.

Frederick County School teachers have not had pay increases in the past four years. The Board of Education is set to approve their budget in June.
