Some changes could be coming to Transit Services of Frederick County, including  fare increases.

Alternations to Routes 30 and 50, and 60 and 70 would make them bi-directional. That means one bus would head in one direction on the same route, and another bus would head in the opposite direction. When riders get on, they would take one bus to their destinations. And when it's time to leave, they would cross the street and take another bus heading in the direction from where they came. "Which is a lot more convenient that getting on the same bus, and having to travel all the way along the entire route to get back to where you came from originally," says Kerry Anderson-Waters, Planner and Project Manager for Transit.
Route 30 serves Downtown Frederick, four Golden Mile shopping centers, including the Frederick Town Mall, Old Camp Road and Key Parkway, West Patrick Street eastbound to Monocacy Boulevard and South Street as it heads back to the Transit Center. Route 50 travels in a counterclockwise direction to Route 30.

Route 60 serves East Street, North Market Street north of 9th Street, 14th Street, Motter Avenue, Thomas Johnson Drive, Amber Drive, Frederick Community College, Heather Ridge Drive, Taney Avenue, Frederick Shopping Center, 7th Street, College Park Plaza, 9th Street, and Bentz Street between East 9th and 7th Streets, Route 70, which does not operate on Saturday, serves  much of the same area as Route 60, but in the opposite direction.

Another change proposed by Transit are  fare increases.  "The Connector and Shuttle Routes fare adjustment proposal is a two-phase proposal," says Anderson-Waters. "We are proposing the first phase to be into affect on July 30th of this year. And what we're proposing is that the Connector and Shuttle Routes increase from $1.10 for a one-way trip to $1.25 for a one-way trip," she says. The second phase would be put into affect in July, 2014. The fares for both routes would go from $1.25 for a one-way trip to $1.50.

There would also be increases for Transit Plus for medical and other trips.

Public meetings to discuss this changes are scheduled for Monday, June 4th, at Winchester Hall from 6:30 to 8:00 PM; on Tuesday, June 5th at 1:00 PM at the Transit Center in Downtown Frederick; and Wednesday, June 6th at 11:00 AM at the Frederick Senior Center on Taney Avenue.

The County Commissioners will hold a hearing on Thursday, June 7th at 10:00 AM on the proposed fare increases.
