The Frederick Police Department (FPD) is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying a female victim of a homicide whose body was found nearly 30 years ago. With the help of forensic reconstruction, detectives hope new facial images will generate leads regarding her identity. The facts of the case are as follows:

On August 24, 1982, the FPD received a call about a steamer trunk just off the roadway at the Frederick City Watershed. Officers responded and discovered the body of a white female, 18-25, with dark hair, inside the trunk.

Since the discovery, detectives have pursued hundreds of leads but to this date, the victim has not been positively identified. Several months ago, the FPD reached out to Sgt. Don Stahl of the Charles County Sherriff’s Office to assist in a facial reconstruction. Sgt. Stahl is highly skilled in forensic reconstruction of skeletal remains and was able to examine the remains and provide digital pictures of what the victim may have looked like at the time of her discovery.

The victim’s remains were in good condition and were initially sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore and ultimately examined at the Smithsonian for identification purposes. Through the examinations it was learned the victim had undergone extensive dental work.
