Torch Run To Take Place In Frederick

It rarises money for Special Olympics Maryland.


The annual Law Enforcement Torch Relay is coming to Frederick this week.

Local police officers, and athletes from the Frederick County Chapter of Special Olympics will convene at the Talley Recreation Center at 121 North Bentz Street on Thursday at 10:00 AM for the reading of a proclamation of Special Olympics.

The County’s part of the Special Olympics Torch Run will be a 3.1 miles run or bike around historic Frederick.

Money for Special Olympics Maryland is raised through sale of t-shirts and hats which cost $10.

The Maryland Torch Run is in its 25th year.

More than 2,000 law enforcement officers from around the state will be participating in the 600-mile run.

The Special Olympic "Flames of Hope" will travel across Maryland. All of the relays will converge in Towson for the lighting of the cauldron during the 2012 Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games Opening Ceremonies.
