A man was killed Saturday afternoon in Washington County when his car struck a truck tractor head-on on the Rt. 522 bridge over the Potomac River.

Maryland State Police said David Wayne Mccumbee, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened when Mccumbee was driving a 1988 Toyota Corolla, was coming from West Virginia, going north on the bridge. Police say his car crossed the center line and hit a 2012 Freightliner tractor trailer. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. and the Rt. 522 bridge was closed for about three hours.
