A vehicle was traveling east on Rt. 26 at Kingfisher Dr. and struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway.
Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal accident that happened late Tuesday night in Frederick County.
According to a press release, State Troopers responded to a single vehicle accident around 11:45 p.m. involving a pedestrian on eastbound Rt. 26 at Kingfisher Dr. in Frederick.
An investigation revealed that a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling east on Rt. 26 at Kingfisher Dr. and struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway.
The pedestrian was walking north, trying to cross the roadway when he was struck by the Volkswagen. The vehicle then continued traveling eastbound before turning around at Waterside Dr. and returning to the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Jason Bruce McDonald, of Walkersville, found a man laying in the roadway and immediately called 911.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Neither McDonald nor his passenger, Tiffany Nicole Gentry, were injured in the crash.
The roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours for the investigation. The pedestrian was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
