Many people make donations around the holiday season to the less fortunate but often forget about it during the summer months. The Salvation Army will be holding Christmas in July, a two week fundraising event to raise money for the less fortunate.

Major Raymond Pruitt, the Commander of the Salvation Army of Frederick County said  there is usually a drop in donations over the summer months but hopes to raise money during this event.

"We are very well supported in Frederick. This is a great community, we get tremendous community support; so it's not that it is unusual, it happens every summer. We expect to be okay, we don't expect to have to cut any services over the summer at all," Pruitt said.

Residents will see the iconic bell-ringers at the red kettles at different locations throughout Frederick County on Friday, July 6th and 13th from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, July 7th and 14th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The locations include: Downtown Frederick Square Corner (in front of Colonial Jewelers), Walmart (7400 Guilford Drive and 1811 Monocacy Blvd), Sam's Club (5604 Buckeystown Pike) and Kmart (1003 West Patrick Street.

"The needs do not slack off in the summer. People still need a place to live, prescriptions and food on the table," Pruitt said.
