Two Hagerstown residents are charged with motor vehicle theft in connection with an incident on Sunday in Washington County. State Police in Hagerstown say James Odans, Jr., 40, and Megan Marie Sweeney, 25, were apprehended in Frederick County.

Authorities say William Newton, 67, of Frederick was giving the two a ride from Williamsport to Frederick in his Plymouth van when one of the passengers jumped into the driver's seat along Route 40 near Crystal Falls Drive, and drove off. The vehicle was later found in a driveway at Easterday Road near Myersville.

A search by the State Police helicopter, Frederick County Sheriff's Deputies and State Troopers from Frederick and Washington Counties resulted in the arrests of Odans and Sweeney.

They're both charged with motor vehicle theft, theft less than $1,000, theft less than $10,000 and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
