Mountain State University has lost their general accreditation status.

The Higher Learning Commission released their decision on Monday and say the University failed to meet it's criteria for leadership, resources, planning and oversight.

Mountain State has satellite locations in Martinsburg, West Virginia; Mooreville, North Carolina; Center Township, Pennsylvania; and Orlando, Florida.

In January 2010, the school purchased the Martinsburg Mall to be used for additional classroom space.

Mountain State plans to appeal the decision. During the appeal process, the University will be able to keep it's accreditation.

The Higher Learning Commission claims failures by administrators to correct problems with the school's nursing program led to it's loss of accreditation.
