PSA for July 17th through July 23rd

 

 

Marvin Chapel Thrift Shop is now having an end of the season sale.  Clothes by the bagful for the whole family, shoes, dishes, household items, artwork, books, etc.  The hours are Friday and Saturday from 10am till 2pm.  The church is located at 5101 Woodville Road, off of Rt. 144 between New Market and Mt. The Frederick County Humane Society is offering the following activities:

v      

v     Right now their emergency pet food bank is extremely low on supplies.  For the next two months you may drop off pet food and supplies at Copy Doc Business Solutions.  They are located at 436 West Patrick Street and their business hours are Monday thru Friday from 7am till 6pm.

The Frederick County Humane Society is the county’s oldest non-profit organization dedicated to helping pets and their families.  They are located at 217 West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick.

 

 

The Frederick Senior Center will offer low impact exercise classes called Intro To Fitness.  It provides participants with a safe exercise routine under the guidance of certified instructors.  Classes are offered daily, Monday thru Friday, at varied times.  A suggested donation of $3 per session is requested.  For more information please call the Frederick Senior Center at 301.600.5325

The American Red Cross Greater Chesapeake & Potomac Blood Services Region is seeking Youth to be greeter and refreshment volunteers at blood drives in the Central Maryland area.  A commitment of 1-2 blood drives a month is requested.  This position is offered to youth who have transportation, enjoy working with people and have excellent customer service skills.  One hour orientation sessions are offered at American Red Cross offices in Frederick County.  For more information please call 1.800.272.0094, ext. 1 or email TerryAnn.Karloff@redcross.org

 

 

The Frederick County Health Department will hold it’s 2012 Rabies Vaccination Clinics at the following locations:

v     June 14th and September 11th at Thurmont Community Park

All clinics will be held, rain or shine, on a walk-in basis from 5pm till 8pm.  Each vaccination is $8 payable by cash or check ONLY.  All dogs, cats, and ferrets are welcome but, for the safety and comfort of all, need to contained, leashed, or in a carrier.

 

 

To show appreciation for those who serve in the U.S. Military, the National Park Service will begin issuing an annual pass offering free entrance to all 397 national parks for active duty military members and their dependents.

NorthStar Community Church, located at 11801 Fingerboard Road, Suite 16 in Monrovia has opened a cooling station.  This site has the capacity to assist residents with basic necessities to survive the extreme heat conditions this summer.  The Cooling Center provides an air-conditioned facility for when the National Weather Service declares a Heat Emergency Advisory.  It has free movies, a library, a place to charge electronics and other activities.  The site is opened from 9am till 8pm daily through the Heat Emergency Advisory.  For more information please call Sharon Blache at 301.401.2456

 

 

Frederick County Public Schools will be holding the 2012 Summer Planetarium shows.  The Earth and Space Science Laboratory-Ausherman Planetarium is located at 210 Madison Street in Frederick.  The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, July 19th

The Summerfest Family Theatre series presents Billy B. at 10:30am in the Baker Park Bandshell.  He teaches children of all ages about natural science, ecology and the environment through song and dance.  This performance is open and free to the public., but please bring a canned food item for the Frederick Food Bank.

 

 

Saturday, July 21st

The public is invited to connect to the lighter side of children’s lives in the 1800s from 10am till 4pm at the Roger Brooke Taney House, located at 121 South Bentz Street in Frederick.  There will be guided tours of the museum and historic site, and activities geared towards younger guests.  Crafts and historic games will be held and admission is free.  For more information please call Jennifer Winter at 301.663.1188 x104

 

St. Benjamin’s Lutheran Church will hold a Bull Roast from noon till 3pm.  It will be held rain or shine at 700 Krider’s Church Road in Westminster.  Tickets are $10 for ages 12 and up, $5 for ages 5-11, and ages 4 and under are free.  There will also be music and a silent auction.  For more information please call 410.386.6481

Sunday, July 22nd

United Steam Fire Engine Company No.3 will hold a Bingo at the Frederick County 4-H Center, located at 3702 Basford Road in Frederick.  Doors open at 11am, and games being at 1pm.  The cost is $20 and concessions will be available.

 

Military Days kicks off the Summer Concert Series in Baker Park.  Activities begin at 3pm and include military displays and entertainment.

 

Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a dedication service at 10am worship to commemorate the rebuilding and reopening of their sanctuary after the fire.  All are welcome.  They are located at 5101 Woodville Road.
