The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Frederick and it's surrounding areas until 4:15 p.m.
At 2:54 p.m., weather officials said severe thunderstorms were detected along a line extending from five miles northwest of Emmitsburg to Thurmont, to Boonsboro, and were moving southeast at 40 mph. This line of storms is capable of producing hail up to the size of quarters and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
Locations impacted include Walkersville, Taneytown, Frederick, Braddock Heights, Harry Grove Stadium, and Ballenger Creek.
At 3:11 p.m., severe thunderstorms were detected along a line extending from Taneytown to 6 miles southwest of Taneytown to Frederick, and were moving southeast at 35 mph. Locations impacted include Westminster, New Market, Manchester, and Green Valley.
