The application will take place on Thurs., Aug. 2nd.

Frederick City public works employees will be applying copper sulfate to Lake Linganore and Fishing Creek on Thursday, August 2nd. 180 pounds of the chemical will be applied to Lake Linganore, and 4 pounds for Fishing Creek.

The chemical is used to treat taste and odor causing algae.

The copper sulfate crystals will be diluted with water, and will be sprayed along the shores. The solution will applied from a boat in the water, using a spray/bar wand. The City says it should not have any impact on people or livestock in the amount that's being applied.

The spraying will take place at Lake Linganore from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon; and at Fishing Creek from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM.

If it rains on Thursday, the spraying will be rescheduled for Friday, August 3rd.

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Lake Linganore Association have been contacted, and have been made aware of the spraying.
