Cars were damaged early Sunday morning in the Westminster area.

Some residents in the Westminster area woke up Sunday morning to find their cars had been ransacked, and items inside were taken. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says these incidents occurred in the Judges Fancy and Greenbriar neighborhoods.

Authorities say individuals shattered car windows, bent antennas and smashed mailboxes. They stole $1500 worth of electronics, change, jewelry and prescription drugs from unlocked vehicles.

Even though these vandals caused more than $4,000 in damage, the Sheriff's Office says they managed to get away undetected. Deputies and crime scene investigators worked into the evening hours collecting information from residents, and processing 27 vehicles for fingerprint and DNA evidence.

Authorities remind residents to roll up their windows, lock all car doors and remove valuables when leaving their vehicles unattended. In addition, report any unfamiliar vehicles and persons roaming their neighborhoods and parking lots during late evening and early morning hours.

The investigation into this incident is continuing, and anyone with information, or who did not file a report,  is asked to call the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at 410-386-2900, or the TIPS hotline at 1-888-399-TIPS {8477}
