It's only august but forecasters are already trying to predict what our winter will look like.
According to Accuweather Meteorologist Frank Straight, we are going to see a lot of snow. He said it's because of El Nino in the eastern pacific.
"It's been starting over the last couple of months and the El Nino is getting stronger and we think it is going to peak as a perhaps moderate run of the mill El Nino rather than one of the really strong ones we saw back in the 90's," Straight said.
He was asked if we will see heavy snowfall similar to what we experienced in 2010.
"The potential is there for that. The question will be where the storm track ends up and setting up and how frequently do we see some really cold shots of air. That's why we aren't very specific we our forecasts just yet but certainty the potential is there for us to see a lot of snow this year," Straight said.
Straight said in October he will be coming out with a more detailed prediction for the 2012-2013 winter season.
