Average gallon of unleaded in Maryland is $3.78.
Hurricane Isaac has helped to push gas prices higher for Labor Day weekend travelers. "Gas prices were already at record highs for this time of year," said Christine Delise, Public Affairs Specialist, AAA Mid Atlantic. "Isaac forcing the closure of refinery operations on the Gulf Coast, had us looking at 20% of the U.S. capacity to shut down, sending prices even further up," continued Delise.
Despite significant gas price swings, crude oil prices weathered the storm well. Prices moved lower mid-week after Isaac made landfall in Louisiana, following an unexpected crude oil stock build and the fading threat of refinery damage in the Gulf from the storm.
In Maryland, the average price of a gallon of regular unleade is $3.78.
