State Police say alcohol may have been a factor.
A Martinsburg, West Virginia man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Washington County. Maryland State Police say Jorge Alberto Silva-Alvarez, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told troopers that Silva-Alvarez was operating a Chevrolet Trailblazer along westbound Interstate 70 near Beaver Creek Road when for unknown reasons it went off the left side of the highway and into the median. The Trailblazer crossed the center median and overturned several times before landing in the fast lane of eastbound I-70.
Troopers also heard from witnesses who said that the vehicle was swerving back and forth across the road and traveling at a high rate of speed.
State Police say alcohol may have been a factor in this fatal crash. The investigation is continuing.
Fire and rescue personnel from the Funkstown Fire Company, and he Community Rescue Service responded to the scene, along with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
