"We're much better off than we were four years ago," is how Local Democratic Convention Delegate Tom Slater describes the nation's economic situation.

He is one of the local officials attending the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina this week.

Slater said there has been a lot of improvement in the United States since President Obama took office four years ago.

"We were in a terrible predicament the day [President Obama] stepped into office and since he's been President, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are prospering, the auto market has improved significantly and the stock market has recovered," Slater said.

President Clinton will speak Wednesday and President Obama will speak on Thursday.
