A man was hit by a car and killed on Rt. 85 just north of Executive Way shortly before 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Maryland State Police say the man stepped into the path of a vehicle that was heading south on Rt. 85 when the accident happened. The roadway was closed for several hours while the scene was investigated.

Police say alcohol was not a factor.
