A commemorative 9/11 flag donated by the Carrollton Manor Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to the Frederick Board of County Commissioners is now displayed in front of Winchester Hall, the seat of county government. In a press release issued, it stated that this special flag depicts the twin towers, pentagon and a cracked Liberty Bell, which are references to sites where many people lost their lives in attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.
To honor those victims, the Frederick Board of County Commissioners will host a September 11 Tribute at Noon on Tuesday, September 11. This year’s remembrance will be held at Independent Hose Company Number #1 and then move to other fire stations each year to showcase the outstanding personnel, equipment and services of each one.
Independent Hose Company is located at 310 Baughmans Lane, Frederick, Md. Instituted in 1818, the company is Maryland's oldest fire company in continuous operation.
As a highlight, the program will include remarks from the following: Emcee and Director Clarence Jewell, III, Emergency Communications Department; Board President Blaine Young; Sheriff Chuck Jenkins; President Martin Fuller and Chief Rodney Masser, Independent Hose Company, and Director Tom Owens, Fire & Rescue Services Division.
Personnel from fire and rescue, military, law enforcement, emergency management and other organizations, as well as the public, Frederick County Government employees and media are invited to attend.
