Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-6-MD) today announced that the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in Emmitsburg, Maryland has been awarded a federal grant of $1,000,000 for its fire prevention programs under the Fiscal Year 2011 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. A memorial to Fallen Firefighters as well as the Foundation are housed on the grounds of the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg.

In a press release Congressman Bartlett said, "Since the 9/11 attacks, Americans have been more appreciative of first responders. These men and women selflessly run toward danger to protect the lives and properties of our families, neighbors, co-workers and communities. I am grateful and proud that most firefighters in central and western Maryland are volunteers. Our local first responders are prepared to respond and lend assistance in the event of a terrorist attack or natural disaster anywhere in the National Capital Region. The Fallen Firefighters Foundation will use this highly competitive $1,000,000 grant to ensure that first responders all over the nation receive continual training and guidance through their extensive fire prevention programs."
