It happened after the bear was struck by a car.
A bear dragged itself north off Interstate 68 on Friday afternoon after being struck by a car, according to Washington County Emergency Services.
A person traveling by saw the incident and reported it to the 911 center at 3:23 p.m. Friday, according to the 911 dispatcher who took the call.
Maryland State Police were called to the scene and Maryland Department of Natural Resources was to be notified, the dispatcher said.
The incident occurred west of Hancock between Sandy Mile and Green Lane roads.
