Armed Robbery Reported At Pennsylvania Avenue Bank In Hagerstown

Thanks to citizens and a K-9 the suspect was apprehended.

A Chambersburg, Pa., man faces charges after a bank robbery Friday afternoon at M&T Bank at 13409 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown.

Charles Benjamin McNeal, 27, is charged with two counts of robbery, one count of burglary, one count of theft and two counts of second-degree assault.

At 4:44 pm, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for a robbery at the bank. A man entered the bank and passed a note to the bank teller demanding money, police said in a news release. After receiving an unspecified amount of money, the man fled the bank, police said.

The man was apprehended on Fairfield Road in the Fountain Head area through the use of a Washington County Sheriff's Office K-9 and assistance from alert citizens.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking citizens in the Fountain Head area to remain vigilant around their property for anything that appears suspicious and out of place as it might be linked to this case. Residents are asked to pay close attention to trash cans, porches and other areas of their yards.
