The local theater will hold a reception next Fri., Sept. 28th.

What the Weinberg calls an "unveiling celebration" will take place on Friday, September 28th beginning at 6:30 PM.   The purpose is to showcase the renovations which were recently completed at that theater.   There will be  a  have donor recognition, a short film on the transformation of the theater, hors d'ouevres and a cash bar.

The renovation work, which was  completed this year,  started in 2008 with a $1-million capital campaign.

"When you walk into the Weinberg this year, you're going to see a new Weinberg," says Executive Theater Manager John Healey, regarding the renovations. "We actually started in 2008 with the replacement of all the chairs. Last summer, we did a lot renovations to the outside foyer and the two inner lobbies."

In addition, some interior decorative painting was done. "We've tried take the theater back to what a theater in 1926, which when the Weinberg Center opened, would have looked like," Healey says. "We had some wonderful craftsmen in there doing a lot of decorative painting in the style of that period."

When the Weinberg Center opened in 1926, it was known as the Tivoli Theater. It was donated to the City of Frederick in 1978.

Healey says the goal was not to recreate that old movie house, but to showcase the charm of that era, while still offering modern-day amenities.

The reception is free and open to the public.  RSVP's are requested and being accepted at www.WeinbergCenter.org.
