A multi-vehicle accident has closed down the westbound lanes of Route 40 at McCain Drive in Frederick.

WFMD reporter Abby Dyjack is on scene and said it appears a silver passenger car was traveling westbound when for unknown reasons it crossed into the median, went thru a gate and hit up to 4 cars in the eastbound lanes of travel.

Two people have been taken out of the car on stretchers while rescue crews worked to free a third person.

A Medivac helicopter has landed in the Home Depot parking lot to transport someone to the hospital.
