Police say the incident involved several individuals.
One person was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore Monday night following a shots-fired incident in Frederick.
Police Lieutenant Clark Pennington says officers responded to the 400 block of West South Street at around 5:30 PM after receiving reports of a large number of people involved in a fight on the sidewalks and in the street. During the fracas, shots rang out.
Pennington says these individuals scattered after the incident.
Officers arriving on the scene saw a vehicle leaving the area being operated erratically. "Inside the vehicle, we did locate one individual we believe might have been involved in the incident suffering from an injury," Pennington says. "We think he's serious but stable at this point. We don't if it's a gunshot or a knife wound. We're thinking more along the line of a knife wound, but until we can actually examine the wound at the hospital, we'll know more."
Lieutenant Pennington was asked if this incident is related to the homicide in Frederick early Sunday morning. "That's a lot of speculation we're not ready to make at this point," he says. "There's a lot left to do in this case. There's a lot still we're doing in the homicide investigation. We're dealing with it piece by piece, putting it back together. And if they link up, we'll obviously put that out. But at this point, we have no indication that they are linked."
Police closed off West South Street between Burck and Bentz Streets while they conducted their investigation.
