The Commissioners approved an agreement with 'Govolution.'

Frederick County Government will begin accepting credit card payments for more services. The Commissioners agreed on Thursday to form a partnership with "Govolution" which will process any electronic payments.

At the present time, some county departments accept "plastic," with some agencies absorbing the fees, and others assessing them on customers. But now Govolution will process payments for taxes, permits and development review fees.

Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards can be used for online transactions with the Department of Permits and Development Review. They can also be used at the Landfill, but customers who pay with cash or a check will get a discount. Department of Aging and Alternative Sentencing will take credit cards for both online and face-to-face transactions. Parks and Recreation, Animal Control and the Sheriff's Office will accept "plastic money," but will absorb the general fund supported transaction. The Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management will continue the practice of assessing fees for water and sewer transactions.

The Implementation of this project will begin in November, and continue over the next year.

The county will be looking to expand electronic payment options in the future.
