A nationwide rally for afterschool programs that's expected to include 75-hundred events and one million attendees across the country this year, is happening on Monday, October 8th.

The Lights On Afterschool Initiative will take place in Frederick County at West Frederick Middle School from 3pm until 7pm. Officials say it will feature sports, martial arts, a talent show, arts and crafts, guest speakers and dinner.

Afterschool programs help working families and inspire learning. According to research, 271,000 children in Maryland are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.
