That message comes from the Board of Elections.

The Frederick Board of Elections says citizens who are properly registered with the county do not have to show voter identification at the polls. This includes those voting absentee, going to their polling places on Tuesday, November 6th, or taking advantage of early voting.

In a statement released on Thursday, Election Director Stuart Harvey said what County Commissioners' President Blaine Young said in a Frederick News-Post article does not apply to the 2012 Election. "The Board {of Elections} wants to remind the roughly 146,000 registered voters in the County that they can vote this year without providing some form of ID," Harvey says.

Young said he wanted to make Frederick County a testing ground for voter identification in the 2014 election. Legislation would need to be passed by the General Assembly before that could happen.

Residents are also reminded they have until October 16th at 9:00 PM to register to vote, or make any changes in their current registration.

General Election day is November 6th, 2012. Citizens can also cast ballots during early voting from Friday, October 27th through Thursday, November 1st. The polling place will be at the Senior Center on Taney Avenue, where Harvey says there's plenty of free parking. The hours each day are from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, except on Sunday, October 28th, when the hours will be from 12:00 noon until 6:00 PM.
