Nationally, more than four people die everyday as a result of domestic violence.

So far this year, Maryland State Troopers have made 346 arrests of domestic violence abusers in the state and have removed 77 firearms from residences where domestic violence has occurred.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Roberta Geidner with the Heartly House said it is important for people to be aware that this does happen locally.

"We have had 29 domestic related fatalities in the last six years in Frederick. That brings an awareness to victims that perhaps, he's right, perhaps he could do that. So there is a lot of dynamics involved with having people who are victims of domestic violence leave the situation and so we want people to be aware of those situations," Geinder said.

Nationally, more than four people die everyday as a result of domestic violence.

She said victims who are seeking help, they can call the Heartly House's 24 hour hotline at 301-662-8800 or go to www.heartlyhouse.org They offer all different kinds of services to help victims including safety plans for those who cannot leave their house.
