A flood warning is in effect until further notice for the Potomac River at Point of Rocks.

At 4 a.m. Tuesday the river level was at 7.3 feet. The flood stage is 16 feet. Forecasters say the river will rise above flood stage by early this evening and crest near 24 feet by early tomorrow evening.

At 25 feet water will reach outbuildings on the Loudoun County side of the river near Point of Rocks. This crest compares to a previous crest of 23.1 feet on September 21, 2003.

A flood warning has been extended until late Wednesday night for the Monocacy River near Frederick. At 3 a.m. Tuesday the river level was 17.1 feet. Flood stage is at 15 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. The river will continue rising to near 23.5 feet by mid-afternoon today. At 24 feet water approaches Urbana Pike near Monocacy National Battlefield.

A wind advisory for our area is in effect until 2 p.m. this afternoon. The high wind warning has been cancelled.

A wind advisory means that wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
