The maximum punishment for violating this ordinance is a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in jail for each offense.

Frederick City is now the second municipality to ban spice in Frederick County.

Frederick Mayor Randy McClement said the Board of Alderman voted last night to ban selling or possessing synthetic marijuana.

"Alderwoman (Kelly) Russell spearheaded this from the legislative side along with a whole host of people including our legal department, police department and Frederick Memorial Hospital".

McClement said before drafting their new ordinance, elected officials looked at legislation already in place in Ocean City and Thurmont.

Frederick Police will now go out and tell businesses in the city that they cannot sell synthetic drugs packaged frequently as spice or scooby snax potpourri.

The maximum punishment for violating this ordinance is a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in jail for each offense.

In October, Thurmont banned selling or possessing spice with-in town limits.
