They were arrested early Thurs. morning.

Four men were arrested early Thursday morning for stealing scrap metal. Travis Waddell, 19, Brandon Battle, 19, Adam Nicholas Toth, 22, and Dwayne Douglass Frazier, 32, are charged with trespassing and theft. In addition, Waddell is also charged with possession of marijuana.

Waddell, Battle and Toth are from Mount Airy, and Frazier is from Boyds.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the 5800 block of Bethel Road in Mount Airy for a theft complaint. The property owner heard her dogs barking outside and saw four men from her window loading scrap metal into a truck. She confronted them. The thieves unloaded some of the scrap metal before they fled.

The property owner was able to give deputies a registration number, and a check with the Motor Vehicle Administration led authorities to the four.

The suspects were found in the 7800 block of East Hill road near Mount Airy. They had already sold the scrap to a processing company, but deputies managed to put a hold on that transaction.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies smelled an odor of marijuana on Waddell. After questioning, he produced 28-grams of pot on his person and turned it over to authorities.
