Election irregularities were reported Tuesday in Mount Airy by a citizen. Shirley Burdette said when her husband went to Prospect United Methodist Church on Woodville Road, he had an issue with the computer, not registering his entries correctly. "For instance the President. He voted one way and it came out another way," she said.
Burdette said her husband noticed the mistake after he checked his summary printout. "A lot of people that we spoke with said, oh my God, we just glanced at it to make sure we didn't miss any, but we didn't verify our answers."
She said she reported the incident to the Frederick County Election Board. Fortunately, her husband was able to manually change his entry with the help of an election official.
"A lot of times, if you're using the touch screen, it gets a little sensitive if you're close to the line between two candidates," says Election Director Stuart Harvey. "And if you don't touch right on the space where the candidate is, and it's on the line, it sometimes doesn't know which of the two candidates you want." He says the system has a summary page where voters can review the choices they made. If they feel they made the wrong decision, they can correct it.
