For years, the Child Advocacy Center of Frederick County helped children, who are victims of abuse, receive treatment and therapy in one location.
Now their operations may be changing and that has some local officials, like Commissioner Paul Smith, wondering why.
"I don't fully understand what the change is and I don't fully understand the problems that require the change," Smith said.
Commissioner's President Blaine Young said a model proposed by Social Services would move the center to the Social Services building and reduce staff.
"That model would put the Department of Social Services in charge. The members that sit on the CAC board is the State Attorney, the Sheriff, the Chief of Police, a member of the State Police Department, also Pat Rosensteal, who is in charge of Citizens Services, a representative of the Heartley House and a representative of Frederick Memorial Hospital," Young said.
The Board of County Commissioners will vote this month on the fate of the center.
The idea behind the one-stop-shop is to prevent children from being retraumatized during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
