Charges are pending in this case.

Berkeley County, West Virginia Animal Control Officers removed two dead cats and four living cats from a house in Martinsburg. The Sheriff's Office says the two deceased cats were found lying on the floor at the home at 1105 Washington Avenue.

Animal Control Officers serving a search warrant at the house found floors and walls covered with feces, urine, cobwebs, and discarded food and garbage.

Authorities say Thomas William Eaton and his wife live at that home, along with another individual. They say charges are pending.

The investigation into this situation began in October, when an Animal Control Officer responded to the home to look into complaints about a stray cat. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer says he saw cats on the porch which ran away when he approached. Some went off of the porch, and others went inside.

The Animal Control Officer says he spoke with Mr. Eaton, who said the cats were strays and are fed there. When asked if he could come in, Eaton refused. The Animal Control Officer says he saw feces on the floor, and could smell urine. He also saw other animals while speaking with Mr. Eaton.

After that, the Animal Control Officer was able to obtain a search warrant, He confiscated the cats, and photographed the conditions inside the home.
