The crash remains under investigation.
The Frederick County Sheriff's Office has released the names of those involved in Thursday morning's fiery crash on Gambrill Park Road. The driver who was killed is Jonathan Horne, 22. The two passengers who survived are Phillip Schmidt, 25, and Dean Wendig, 24. All three men are Frederick residents.
Authorities say Horne was driving his 2003 Dodge Neon along Gambrill Park Road when he failed to negotiate a turn. The car left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.
Schmidt and Wendig were able to get out of the vehicle, and call 911. Horne was not able to get out, and died at the scene.
Wendig was flown by the Maryland State Police Medivac Helicopter to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Schimdt was taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. Both continue to be treated.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the lead investigator, Dfc. Timothy Calimer, at 301-600-4132.
