A section of Interstate 270 was closed last night in Frederick County due to a fatal accident.
Around 9:50 p.m. Maryland state police responded to the crash site on Northbound 270, just north of the Montgomery County Line.
Investigators say the driver of a 2001 Ford Windstar identified as Joseph Grant, 51, of Martinsburg, WV, was traveling southbound on Interstate 270 when it traveled into the center median for an unknown reason. The Ford Windstar then continued into the northbound lanes where it struck a 2012 Ford Escape, killing the driver. He's identified as Peter Anthony Halpert, 47, of Frederick.
After striking the Ford Escape, the Ford Windstar then continued moving and hit a Lexus RX330. The driver of the Lexus, Marion Angus Barrie, 50, of Frederick, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. She was released after an evaluation.
Grant was taken to Suburban Hospital, and is listed in stable condition.
Northbound 270 was closed for three hours during the investigation.
