January 
Dorsey Meats which was headquartered in Woodsboro for well over 125 years has closed. 
 
Lawmakers agreed to pursue funds for the design and development of a hotel/ conference center at one of six locations in downtown Frederick. 
 
February 
The Frederick County Commissioners voter to adopts English only as the official language to conduct business. 
 
A new firehouse for the town of Brusnwick is opened and dedicated. 
 
March 
Frederick county gets word that President Obama will host the upcoming G-8 Summit at Camp David. 
 
Dr. F. T. Talley is named as the new President of Frederick Community College. 
 
April 
The Primary election is held and Congressman Roscoe Bartlett holds off a challenge from five other potential candidates. 
 
A Frederick City Police Officer is charged with a DUI after causing a property damage accident and driving into Middletown. 
 
May 
Routzahn’s Furniture Store in Frederick closes its door at the Route 26 site. 
 
The G-8 Summit is held with no major problems encountered by police. 
 
June
 
FCTA members reject the Board of Educations last contract offer. 
 
The historic swinging bridge in Baker park is reopened after major refurbishing. 
 
July 
The Frederick County Commissioners voter to pursue plans for the Jefferson Technology Park just outside the city limits. 
 
Critical financial problems have caused the closing of the Jeanne Buzzard Center. 
 
August 
Brunswick City Administrator becomes the second elected official to resign after the election of Karin Tome as the new Mayor. 
 
FCPS opens schools to over 40,000 students for the new year. 
 
September
 
A competition called the Tough Mudder is held at Crumland Farms on the same day as the In the Street Celebration, stretched police coverage to the limit. 
 
With recent annexations, the City of Frederick has grown by nearly 600 acres. 
 
October
 
Hurricane Sandy gives the area a glancing blow causing many power outages lasting nearly a week. 
 
Frederick City Police are required to redeploy officers in response to a number of civil problems downtown as Saturday night crowds become disruptive. 
 
November 
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett is defeated by John Delaney after serving 20 years representing our area. 
 
Police Chief Kim Dine steps down as Frederick Police Chief to become the Chief of the US Capitol Police Department. 
 
December 
Local police respond to several rumors of trouble in Frederick County Schools in the aftermath of the massacre in Connecticut. 
 
The large stretch of Monocacy Boulevard is finally opened in the eastern side of Frederick.
