Maryland State Officials have decided to ban crib bumper pads. After an 18 month investigation studies show it is very easy for an infant to suffocate if there are lots of things for them to lay on in their crib.
Many parents want to keep their babies safe by adding soft objects to their cribs but researchers say the less objects in the crib the safer they are.

Having no bumper pads in cribs is something that daycare centers already practice. Daycare officials also say that babies more than a year old should not be using cribs to sleep in, they can use the bumper pads to climb out and fall. The ban will take effect June 21, 2013.
