Dr. King To Be Remembered In Celebration At TJ High

The program is entitled 'From Vision To Action.'

 

A celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at  7:00 PM at the Governor Thomas Johnson High auditorium.

The program entitled "From Vision To Action" will feature musical selections performed by students from  Deer Crossing, New midway/Woodsboro, Spring Ridge and Urbana Elementary Schools.

Catoctin High School senior Laken Weaver will sing the National Anthem with Hailey Johnson, a junior at Thomas Johnson High, accompanying Miss Weaver on the piano. Daryl Boffman, a former Board of Education member, will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing" with Johnson again  on the piano.

The "King" awards will also be handed out to one student from each of the county's public schools who has demonstrated the leadership qualities of Dr. King, and have exemplified the pillars of "Character Counts:" Responsibility, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness, Citizenship and Respect.

This is the 23rd year students have honored Dr. King's legacy with this event.

In case of snow, the celebration will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd.
