The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Prince George’s County fire officials say two people were killed in a fire at an apartment building in New Carrollton, including one who tried to jump to safety. Fire officials say one person was found dead in the apartment where the fire started Sunday night.
Another died after jumping from a top-floor balcony of the four-story building. The person fell about 40 feet and sustained massive trauma to the upper body. Fire officials say the person died at a hospital. Fire officials have not released the names or genders of the victims but say both were adults.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials say it’s suspicious in nature.
The fire broke out around 7:45 p.m. Sunday and was brought under control in about 15 minutes.
