Frederick Police officers on Tuesday morning arrested a local man who allegedly held his mother-in-law at knifepoint. Horace Vincent Smith, 49, is charged with 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment, and wearing and carrying a weapon with intent to injure.
Police were called to the 700 block of Cromwell Court around 7:28 AM to investigate reports of a man holding a woman at knifepoint, and threatening to harm her. A perimeter was set up. A Crisis Intervention Team officer arrived, and tried to make contact with the man inside the residence.
As a phone call was made, Smith was located away from the home in the yard. Authorities say after a brief standoff, Smith was taken into custody without incident.
