At 1:00 am Thursday the river was at 10.6 feet and rising. Flood stage is 15.0 feet. Minor flooding is forecast.
Officials say the river will rise above flood stage by late this morning and crest near 15.9 feet by early this evening.
The river will fall below flood stage by early Friday morning. When the river rises to 16.0 feet, much of Pinecliff Park and Rivermist Park flood.
Buckeystown Community Park will also flood with water approaching the parking lot. River water is also approaching the Frederick City Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Ballenger Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Significant backwater flooding is occurring.
Police are urging motorists to never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway, this is how most flood deaths result.
A flood watch continues for the Potomac River at Point of Rocks. At 1:00 a.m. Friday morning the river rose to 5.9 feet. Flood stage is 16.0 feet. Minor flooding is possible. The river may rise to flood stage by early Friday evening.
The region is also under a wind advisory until this evening at 6:00 p.m. with wind gusts up to 50 MPH expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
