A second candidate will be entering the race for Mayor of Frederick. Delegate Galen Claget, a Democrat, says he'll be campaigning for the city's top job. He says he brings a lot of executive experience to the position. "I just really feel I can do a lot to manage the city. I have a vision about where I want to take it. It is up my alley. After all, I managed and grew a company in Frederick city for 25 years," he says.

He says a formal announcement will be made about his candidacy on Feb. 27th.

The only other candidate who has  stepped  into the race is Democratic Alderwoman Karen Young. Incumbent Mayor Randy McClement, a Republican, has not said whether he will seek re-election.

Clagett is going on his 11th year as a state delegate. Prior to that, he was county commissioner for 8 years. He has spent 25 years in the private sector.

Clagett says as Mayor, he wants to see city projects funded with state money come to fruition. "I want to finish and really expand what's going on with the Carroll Creek Project. I think the airport is a magnificent jewel that we should expand and grow. And that should be a major effort on our part," he says.

He also says he would like to reduce the tax burden in the city.

Regarding his management style, Clagett says he bring a unique approach to being in charge. "I expect people to perform and I want to give them room to do that," he says. "But we will have expectations for performance."

Clagett says he's excited about everything when it comes to Frederick city. "I want to be an ambassador. I want to let everyone how wonderful it is, make it everything it can be," he says.
