Frederick Man Arrested For Burglary, Assault

The police search for the suspect led to 5 public schools being put on lockdown.

 

A Frederick man has been charged in connection with a burglary Thursday afternoon, which led to a lockdown at five public schools. Douglas M Latenser, 31, was arrested on two counts of 1st-degree burglary, three counts of 2nd-degree assault, two counts of malicious destruction of property and one count of trespass.

Frederick Police Officers were called to the 500 block of Cotswold Court in Frederick for a burglary in progress, where a suspect was assaulting one of the residents. They learned the suspect entered the home by kicking in the door, and assaulted the occupants inside. He fled area in a silver VW Cabriolet. A lookout was broadcast to neighboring police agencies.

The vehicle was located at the WaWa on Ballenger Creek Pike. But before Frederick County Sheriff's Deputies could stop the VW, the driver got out and fled on foot to the area of Mallory Court.

Five nearby schools, Ballenger Creek Elememtary and Middle Schools, Orchard Grove Elementary, and Tuscarora Elementary and High Schools, were placed on lockdown as a precaution while police searched for the suspect.

The individual was located at a home on Hastings Court, and a perimeter was set up .  Officers communicated with the suspect, who gave himself up.

The lockdown was lifted by 3:00 PM.Fre
